On Friday, September 17th, 2004, the Pittsburgh Area was hit with leftovers of Hurricane Ivan. In 12 hours, the area received over 6 inches of rain. This was on top of 3 inches from the week before. The results of this much rain in the short time frame resulted in devastating floods that, in some place was ragging rivers unto themselves!!
This is what happened to our area on that day. The effects of which can still be see today. Business and homes destroyed. And a slow recovery of businesses and residents that have stayed in the area.
In our store, we received up to 10 feet of ragging water that overturned showcases filled with merchandise. Destroying thousands of dollars merchandise and store fixtures in the process. We lost up to 4 feet of what was in our main store area and 6 feet of basement area that had backup stock and other items that supported that the store. We even lost our display layout that was at the front of the store. It was a two level (HO on bottom, N on Top) 3 x 6 wooden structure with heavy tempered plate glass sides. It was carried out of the front of the store and down to the river never to be seen again!!!!
IN the days after the flood, it has been touch and go on if we'd reopen. As cleanup and recovery progressed, we made the decision to reopen and have been working hard to reconstruct the store and replace merchandise and fixtures the best we can.
We're now at the point that we can open and serve you, our valued customers.
Below are pictures from the days after the flood. We'll also post what the store looks like today after two months of reconstruction.
Please take a look. And if you haven't heard, we're having a sale on items that were in the flood. Look at that page for details.
